sports authority shops here in san francisco where certainly the red and gold will be flying off the shelves this morning. it's quite the year for sports in the bay area and the super bowl excitement is only going to continue until the big day. last night the 49ers arrived back in the bay area landing at san jose airport. the players came back to a city celebrating and bleeding the that red and gold. crowds spilled out into the streets. the cheers and chants could be heard throughout the city and it didn't take long for the super bowl t-shirts to hit the street as well. one guy was able to sell them for 20 bucks a pop. >> we got p t and we're going to the super bowl and this is smith and company. >> reporter: police did keep a close eye on fans and public drinking. officers did confiscate liquor in the open. that count down in new orleans is on again. it's going to be an exciting time for the bay area as the san francisco 49ers try to take home that 6th super bowl win. live in san francisco, cate cauguiran cbs 5. >>> and there is plenty of fan
this year, perfectly clear last night for fireworks along the waterfront here in san francisco. it's beautiful out there. a lot of people showed up for the 15-minute display and jammed the streets near the bob barker. when it was all over, i think most of them are still out there, it was crowded getting into work today but there was some violence during the new year's celebration here in the city. cbs 5 reporter cate caugiran is in san francisco with the problems police had with the new year's crowd and has the latest. >> reporter: good morning. happy new year. san francisco police had their hands full because some celebrations did not go as planned. there were two separate shootings last night. now three people are recovering from gunshot wounds. the first one happened around 10:40. a victim was shot in the hand near jefferson and mason near fisherman's wharf. the second shooting happened less than an hour later on the embarcadero past peer 23. a 12-year-old boy was shot in the foot and a man suffered a graze wound to the hip. police have not arrested any suspects in either shooti
killing in a san francisco robbery. the man seen running away in this grainy surveillance video last friday just mugged a woman and threw her dog into oncoming traffic. the owner says she treated her dog like a child. >> seeing everything in my head again and wanting to break everything and screaming at the top of my lungs because i miss her and i'm angry. >> there is currently a $3,000 reward for any information that might lead to an arrest. >>> the city of san mateo has evicted a family from its home after years of complaints from neighbors. the reason? lots of construction materials and debris inside and outside the home on lindbergh street. mark cliner was issued a construction permit for the home in 2001 and it's still a work in progress. his general contractor says he works on his own home after he finishes a full day on the job. clyber says he has been slowed by lack of money for building materials. >> the city wants it done but i think my wife wants it done even more. >> the city says the family can no longer live in the home because of code violations and unsafe conditions.

complications. live in san francisco, cate caugiran, cbs 5. >>> there was a warning right before a tanker scraped a bay bridge tower in the fog. cbs 5 reporter anne makovec is on treasure island with the latest. >> reporter: good morning. the investigation continues. you can see the boat right off treasure island where i'm standing. the coast guard says its vessel traffic service sent a warning to the bar pilot right before the tanker grazed one of the bridge's towers. the overseas reymar hit the bay bridge on monday morning. more like a scrape actually. and according to state records, the captain, guy kleess, was involved in three previous scrapes in his career all minor. in august of 2009 his ship grounded in the sacramento river. two days later he damaged a dock at the port of stockton. and in may 2010 he was supervising a trainee on a tugboat that hit the richmond harbor -- hit the bottom, rather, in the richmond harbor. that was out of about 1100 trips he made throughout his career. >> i don't think you can go through a career without having some

is held on a million dollars bail. >>> a san francisco man accused of setting his girlfriend on fire pled not guilty. 22-year-old dexter oliver faces 11 felony charges included attempted murder and torture. according to prosecutors he got in a fight with his girlfriend over which laundromat to use. his bail was set at $10 million. >>> a five-year-old indiana boy who went missing 19 years ago has now been found. the accused kidnappers, his own grandparents. richard landers, jr., has been living in minnesota. investigators say landers' paternal grandparents didn't want the courts to award custody to his mother so they abducted him back in 1994. last september, investigators tracked landers down through his social security number. >> the young man living in the state of minnesota actually was using the social security number but what was really interesting is that doing further checking on his personal logs had the same date of birth as the missing boy. >> the grandparents were charged with a felony in 1999 but that was dropped after the case went cold
